Applications: MOLACID® TAN is a naturally occurring plant polyphenol used in pharmaceutical formulations mainly for its astringent, antioxidant and protective properties. It is used in topical creams, ointments, lotions, gels and solutions to provide an astringent and tissue-protective effect. It also exhibits antioxidant activity and may help protect formulations from oxidative degradation. Its astringent action helps precipitate surface proteins and reduce minor oozing and excessive secretions.

1 Appearance It occurs as yellowish-white or slightly brown amorphous light powder or shiny plates.

(A) A blackish-blue colour is produced which becomes green on the addition of 1 mL of dilute sulfuric acid.
(B) The mixture becomes turbid and a flocculent precipitate is formed.
(C) A greenish-blue precipitate is formed.
3 Solubility It is very soluble in water, freely soluble in acetone, in ethanol (96%) and in glycerol (85%), practically insoluble in methylene chloride.
4 Appearance of solution Solution S is not more opalescent than reference suspension II.
5 Dextrins, gum, salts, sugars The solution remains clear for at least 10 min.
6 Resins The mixture remains clear for at least 15 min.
7 Loss on drying Not more than 12.0%.
8 Sulfated ash Not more than 0.1%.

PACKAGING

MOLACID® TAN is packed in HDPE bag or HDPE drum with double PE liners inside having bar-coded label and tamper-evident seal.

SHELF LIFE, STORAGE AND PACKING

The shelf life is 3 years. Preserve in tight, light-resistant containers.
